DJ Halo
DJ HALO, who ís also known as Jeep Ward, started Djing in his dingy basement as a high schooler when he was presented with a super crappy turntable setup for his birthday after much pestering of his parents. From there it was a wrap. Once he acquired some skills on a decent set up (he worked an entire summer just to buy a pair of Technics 1200’s and a mixer), Halo (then Vainone) took his turntables out to the bars and clubs of Long Island, where he had been attending Hofstra University for a degree in Audio/Radio. After more than two years of spinning in local bars and clubs, tragedy struck.
One night while walking home Halo was struck by a car and left in the middle of his street where upon a police car then ran him over dragging him under the car for some distance until he was finally left on the pavement. After all was said and done the whole ordeal cost him seven pints of blood, many fractured bones and the use of his left arm. Halo had an operation to reconnect the nerves in his damaged arm, and 18 months of therapy later, he returned to the turntables full time. As it turned out the turntables were actually integral part of his physical therapy and helped significantly with the relearning of arm movements.
College graduation came in 2003, after which Halo moved to Arkansas to do radio for a commercial station. Arkansas wasnít for Halo, though, and he soon returned to his native home of the Connecticut, setting up shop in the city of Bridgeport, to continue his search for a spot on the radio dial. After stints at a few local and commercial stations doing tech and engineering work, Halo found a home on Tuesday nights at WVOF 88.5FM in Fairfield where you can catch his weekly mix show Subways and Sidewalks from 10pm-12am. Halo also worked his way from phone volunteer to Hip-Hop Director WPKN/WPKM 89.5/88.7FM Bridgeport/Montauk where you can hear him on-air today doing fill-ins and his bi-monthly slot Monday nights 2AM - 6AM for his show Six Feet Deep.
